The roads in Cambodia are vicious, angry slabs of asphalt filled with potholes that would qualify as valleys in some countries. Fortunately, I had it made traveling from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh. Or so I thought.

Cambodian Taxis

Having spent two weeks in the relaxing beach town of Sihanoukville, I was getting bored and so were the three chaps traveling with me. It was time to head to the supposed chaos of Phnom Penh and eventually Angkor Wat. Despite the legendary reputation of Cambodian roads, the owner of our accommodations told us the road to Phnom Penh was smooth as glass. For twenty U.S. dollars, a local taxi would get all four of us to the city without incident. (more…)

Planning a vacation to Kauai probably has you pretty excited about seeing all of the amazing beaches and natural landmarks, however you are probably curious how you are going to get around, if you need to rent a car or taxi, or if there is some other option for you. Basically, if you are really interested in seeing Kauai, all of it, on your schedule and the way you want then you need to rent a car. Motorhomes for hire come in all shapes, sizes and prices. The trick is to find a motorhome to suit your requirements and budget. Smaller vans are easier to handle, but larger vans offer more comfort. If it’s your first time, I suggest you go for the largest van that you feel happy to drive, within your budget. There are a few styles of motorhome to choose from.

Undoubtedly, not everyone wants to drive on vacation, and for those that fall into this category, there are of course taxi cabs available, as well as limited bus services to get you around. However, although it can be done, the bus / taxi combo is not in any way the most cost effective or convenient way to travel. (more…)
