Summary: Good Unit but bad price on Amazon
Comment: The unit is one of Garmin's high units with many features. Garmin's website suggests the price is $599.99 not the $649.99 suggested by Amazon. I bought mine from Meijer for $438.77 with tax and shipping included.

Summary: Garmin Nuvi 765T
Comment: Let me start out our that I only have experience with the nuvi 200w and the 765t so my opinions don't expand beyond these two devices.

Everything about the 765t has improved from previous versions. The nice matte black color and the textured finish really are great cosmetic touches and make this $450 device feel like $450. The mapping and navigation are in typical garmin fashion, superb. The lane guidance is VERY helpful and is the reason I bought a new garmin to begin with. It really does take the guess work out of freeway driving. I had never driven in San Francisco before and I went up there for a concert. The roads are tricky but with the lane guidance I had no problem. The real life picture of the roads pops up now and then in tricky junctions. IT does look very realistic, but quite honestly with the lane guidance feature, you don't really need to real life picture; you already know where to go.

The media player and picture viewer are just what you would want. Music is organized by artist, album, song, and genre. Sound quality from the internal speaker is fairly good, but when you plug it into your car stereo it is excellent.

When you put in new favorites you can assign them to different folders and categories. My old 200w didn't do this and it is very convenient.

To be short, the unit does exactly what it should and does it well, and I believe is worth the price tag. The reason I am giving 4 stars is because when you have the unit playing music through the headphone jack connected to your car stereo, and you have your phone hooked up to it, the person's voice doesnt come through the car stereo. This is a glitch and will probably we fixed in a software upgrade.

I looked at a bunch of gps units just like you are doing now. The most important thing is navigation, and garmin always comes out on top in every test so that narrowed my search to only garmin devices. My biggest desire was lane guidance so that again narrowed my search to the 7x5 line. I chose the 765t for the bluetooth, and will hope that feature evolves with time. IF you don't want bluetooth the 755t is your unit, if you do then give the 765t a try. If you don't like it amazon has a great return policy.

Summary: Garnin 765t Shutting Down
Comment: I recently purchased a Gramin 765T.
Generally it works Well. I find the Volume on the unit when I get a call on my Blackberry Pearl is too low.
Also I was in Weston, Florida and when I was approacing my Hotel the unit would keep shutting down and resarting all the time in the same spot each time. Once I move out of the General area no problems.
On my last day it also did it in another area.
I would be interested to know if anyone else experienced a similar problem.

Summary: Serious Bluetooth issues
Comment: I will start by stating that as far as GPS functionality goes, it is decent. I haven't seen the Lane Assist feature on this yet. I will hold off on commenting on this feature, until I drive on an Interstate.

>>>UPDATE: Saw the Lane Assist feature yesterday evening, when I was using a local freeway. It is AWESOME! The signs match-up with what you see above head, on the road. Garmin did a great job with this.

As far as Bluetooth functionality goes, I am truly disappointed. Garmin support likes to tout the list of approved phones as the starting point. So, if you call them they will first ask you "is your phone on the supported list?". I have two issues: I have two phones - a Nokia 6103 (on the list) and a T-Mobile Wing (which isn't). A new and popular phone is not on the list, whereas an older model is. Moving past this, my Nokia 6103 STILL had problems, even though it was on the list. The problems:

- I can pair the phone and the GPS just fine. Problem arises when I try to answer a call from the GPS touch screen. I press the ANSWER button (that pops up on the touchscreen when the cell phone rings) and the caller CANNOT HEAR ME.

- When I try to make a call from the GPS, the other person cannot hear me even though the GPS says we're connected.

- The caller ID is not displayed, even though the caller is from the phonebook, Sometimes the 10-digit number is displayed, and sometimes it states UNKNOWN even though the caller exists in the phonebook.

- Worse, the problems above are intermittent: sometimes they occur, and sometimes everything works fine. I have to say that mostly the bluetooth doesn't work as it should.

- When I pair the other cell phone, even though I can MAKE calls and RECEIVE calls. just fine from the GPS - for some reason that phone's phonebook is not downloaded to the GPS. So, every caller listed on the T-Mobile WIng's phonebook is displayed as a 10-digit number, or as UNKNOWN. I guess I can't crib about this for the T-Mobile, as it is not yet supported. My only 'beef' here is: why is it not supported - it's a new phone, and it's one of the best-selling smartphones out there?

- When I call support, they have no clue about fixing the above problems. They just told me to wait for the software updates.

I will withold recommendations to buy, or not to buy. What I WILL recommend, is to wait: it seems Garmin has released this product too early, and there are some teething issues. I foresee a bunch of software updates coming in the next few months - to address these issues. HOPEFULLY!

I will promise to post an update, if the issues listed above are fixed. If they are not fixed in the next 6 months, I wILL recommend not buying this device. Fair enough, Garmin?

Summary: Bluetooth on 765T unstable
Comment: Many people are reporting that the bluetooth offered on the 765T series is not pairing their phones. Apparently this is the result of some new software for the bluetooth utilized by Garmin.

Garmin has not acknowledged this nor do they have a list of phones that even pair with the unit up on their web-site.

My previous Garmin 660 paired fine with my Nokia phone.

If you want the bluetooth option look elsewhere until Garmin acknowledges and fixes the issue.

Edited 11/14/08:

A few days ago Garmin posted a firmware update that fixed the bluetooth issue I was having as well as allowed my phonebook to download. This update is only available on Garmin Webdater. Here are the changes:
Changes from version 2.20 to version 2.50:

Enhanced map drawing performance and reliability
Enhanced BT audio, connectivity and phonebook support
Inhibit display of the proximity warning over the Lane Assist view
Added additional checks so that Yards is used only for the UK locale
Updated text for the display of street prefixes in Europe
Corrected roundabout angle display in the next turn indicator
Corrected incorrect country code dialing
Corrected some issues that could make the unit's touch screen non-responsive
Corrected issue with warnings about locked GPI files
Corrected issue with Hungarian QWERTY keyboard layout
Corrected several issues with third party map compatibility
Added Fleet Management Interface support

It took three weeks so I am changing my review to 3 stars
