Summary: Great sharpening stone
Comment: The diamond stone cuts very quickly and efficiently and it's wonderful not having to worry about the stone wearing away over time and having to be leveled. I haven't tried the diamond stones for the finer grains, for which I'm still using Japanese wet stones, so I can't speak to the fine honing capabilities of the diamond stones, but the coarse diamond stone makes short work of the initial process of removing burrs and dings from the blade, the kind of work which can take hours with the finer Japanese stones. Clean-up is easy, they require no soaking, all in all, a very helpful and handy stone to have.

Summary: What a great product
Comment: My son was having trouble with the disc brakes on his Ford Ranger. We got new pads but there was corrosion on the inner disc surfaces. So we got out some heavy duty files and tried to grind off the brake surface. This was a lot of work for little result. Eventually I tried grinding the surface with my W6C Coarse Whetstone and, Mercy!, did that do the trick. We had to clean the ground metal out of the polka dot recesses repeatedly. Eventually we got a flat, clean surface for the brakes.

Mind you, I've had this coarse W6C and fine W6F for over 25 years! In that time I have sharpened knives, scrapers, gouges, and other tools, flattened regular stones, dressed automobile engine parts, and generally beat these things. I'd call the original investment a good value.

Summary: Hands Down - Its the BEST
Comment: I have used this stone to sharpen at least 100 blades and it still performs like it did on Day 1. This is my 4th Diamond Machine Technology stone. My 1st was/IS a 12 inch extra-fine that is used to put mirror-polished edges on whatever I am sharpening. It still works as well as it did 4 years ago. As with all of DMT's products, the only lubrication used is plain water - no messy oils to contend with, just wipe the excess water off and let air dry when finished. Although a bit pricier than the competition, the monocrystaline diamonds and the thick, rigid, heavy base are well worth the price. I have tried Gerber and Tygersteel stones, and to be honest, they do a fine job - at first, but wear out too quickly. The DMT really has NO competion. Its #1
