Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing headphones, with 1 weak point... Comment: I embarked on a quest years ago to find the best earbuds (for a halfway reasonable price) on the market. I have tried all different models from all the top manufacturers (Sony, Bose, Senheiser, Shure) and these babies blow them all away.
The unique design dampens ambient noise without the need for cumbersome in-line batteries, and keeps them snug in your ears. These are the ONLY headphones I've used that can keep up with me through the entirety of any workout without falling out or needing to be adjusted.
With the oversized bass drivers, these will instantly transform inherently weak signals from ipods and laptops into full, thumping glory without overcompensating. I can also plug them into my higher-performance stereo or PC for movies and gaming, and they still sound great.
I will say with absolute confidence that these are the best earbuds on the market for under $300, but there is a catch: while both the wire and the plastic enclosure (where the drivers are) are extremely rugged, the spot that they connect is only held in place by a single dab of glue. That means that if you pull the cord to remove them from your ear (which everyone does) eventually the wire will disconnect and they will be worthless.
I have owned 2 pairs of these earbuds, and both have broken in the same way. However, I love them so much that I am going to buy a 3rd pair with no hesitation. I plan to put a bit of superglue at the connection point on each bud, and I am almost certain this will fix the breakage problem.
Customer Rating: Summary: SWEET!!! Comment: These arrived yesterday so my review might be a lil premature but....
These have to be the best Earphones at this price-point and beyond. I thought this type of experience would cost more. I've tried a couple different headphones Grado SR80's and then the Bose earphones which just recently failed at the plug. So when I went looking again I was looking at what Shure had to offer but was also interested in what Klipsch had as many reviews said the bass was a bit punchier. I didn't try either but was informed buy a musician friend Ultimate Ears were the way to go hand down.
The fitment is a lil weird and I still need to try some other options but I found the disposable foam tips work best thus far. I can't hear a thing around me. I rode the "L" [Chicago trans system] this a.m. to work and thought I was on the monorail. Be careful - they really cut all outside sound OUT!
Now as far as the sound experience. UNREAL!!!! I first cued up Pink Floyd's Meddle and it was Amazing! Just really great. Sounds and transitions I was never aware of, at least not at this level. I've even back tracked a few different selections to hear some things again thinking it must have been an outside noise. I also listened to some heavier bass tracks [BB Paul's Boutique] and it's great as well. I'm keeping the overall volume down as I can see how it could be too much. And there really isn't a need.
I would say if your coming from the stock iPod set or the Bose set-up this will blow you away. I would buy these again in a minute.
cheers
Customer Rating: Summary: mind bending bass!!! Comment: If you are a bass adict like me, buy these mind bending bass blasters. the sound is awesome and crisp. highs and mids don't suffer and they are worth every penny. yes they are huge but not uncomfortable by any means. if you try to be cheap, you get what you pay for. i have senn. 300 and they are cool and bass is ok, but these smoke em and i all but waisted $40 on them except that i now have a back up pair for yard work pair and rainy walks. highly recommend.
ps. i said in an earlier review of the senn. 300 that i don't know why you would pay so much for these but i now put foot in mouth and would pay double the price.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pleased consumer Comment: I recently purchased the fi5 EB's when an impulse turned curiosity into a purchase.
My previous buds were $25 Koss noise isolating (not noise cancelling) buds that satisfied my needs.
Upon receipt of the fi5's, I discovered instruments and voices previously unheard to the point I found myself laughing. I'm no audiophile but the fidelity lacking in the $25 buds was immediately apparent.
Is $150+ worth the investment? If the cost isn't too prohibitive, I suggest yes.
An analogy: If you are quite happy with the Television you own and you go to a dinner party and see the new wiz-bang model plasma-LCD (insert technology here), your home experience is forever blemished.
Bottom line, yes, I would repeat the purchase.
An aside, when the new wears-off and if I can auction my wife and kids for enough money, I can see myself upgrading to the step-next in Ultimate Ears product line.
Customer Rating: Summary: The search continues... Comment: I really wanted to like these as I was looking for something that could provide that extra oomph when listening to bass. As other reviewers have said, bass is incredibly powerful and I do have to turn off bass booster on my iPod otherwise, it just becomes overpowering. Sound quality overall is very, very good overall and getting a good seal was relatively easy. They sound a heck of a lot better than the SE210.
However, the two biggest knock I have against these is that 1) they are just not comfortable and 2) boy are they ugly. They are HUGE, big and bulky (not to mention ugly) and I do get tired after wearing them for more than an hour or so. They don't stick out of your ear a little bit, they stick out A LOT. I suppose if you like the Frankenstein look, it wouldn't bother you, but yeah, it definitely looks like you're walking around with bolts in your ear. You definitely won't be able to sleep in them, or at least turn your head while lying down. I ordered the white ones as well, and they're not white, more like an ivory/eggshell type of color.
