Since it's introduction in 1998, the Suunto Vector wristop computer has acted as the altimeter, barometer, electronic compass, and digital logbook for everyone from mountaineers to the Marines. The Vector keeps track of almost everything for you. It is the very tiny instrument panel that could be the key to backcountry survival. This year's Vector adds degree numbers and cardinal half points to the compass bezel, allowing users to make more accurate readings in the field. The Vector's altimeter enables users to track ascent and descent rates, as well as the number of runs skied in a day. This information can be very helpful when determining if you can bag one more descent at the end of a long tour. The watch's barometer allows you to track weather changes and automatically records atmospheric pressure over 4 days in 6hr intervals. Being able to track incoming storms is key when deciding how to prepare for a day of skiing or climbing.

Customer Rating: Summary: Faulty straps! Comment: I purchased this watch because I am in the military and its a must have however, less than 2 days after recieving this item the screws for one of the straps fell off. It could be that I should have ajusted them when I recieved it but being built to some degree of military specs I thought all I'ed need to do is jump on and enjoy the ride. So my end state is that it has to be shelved until I order the screws, what a drag! Oh, and by the way I'm from Trinidad and Tobago work the maths!
Customer Rating: Summary: Suunto Vector, Complete Letdown! Comment: Honestly, for me, the watch is a disappointment. I should have paid more for a better model from a different company.
Cheap construction and a bad sensor for the temp. They should put a crystal in the face, or atleast some higher quality material. I have had it for a month and it is already a mess.
I have always had my eye on a Suunto and when I finally bought one it turned out to be a waste of money!
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect for the rain forest Comment: I just returned from spending two plus weeks in the rain forest in coastal British Columbia. This watch worked perfectly. It was critical to have the thermometer altimeter and the barometer. I was able to use topographical maps and the watch to know where I was on the mountain. I was also able to leave the rock face when the barometer predicted incoming rain. This piece of equipment (far more than a watch) was critical to the success of the expedition.Suunto Vector Wrist-Top Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Thermometer
Customer Rating: Summary: Unreadable within two weeks Comment: The watch worked great for about two weeks, then became unreadable. I am in the process of returning it... so will see how their warrenty policy holds up.
Customer Rating: Summary: Negative display is POOR Comment: As a previous reviewer has pointed out, the older Vectors utilized a positive display, with the numbers in black and the lcd background a grey color. The most recent Vector I purchased on Amazon came with the negative display, which is simply the opposite ... the numbers being grey on a black background. Since the brightness of the grey numbers cannot be increased to stand out better against the black, it makes it ridiculously difficult to read in many lighting conditions. Turning on the backlight helps, but to do that you have to hold the light button down for 2 seconds before it responds. What a pain. The functions of the watch are great, however. Just note there is a steep learning curve to understanding the buttons. A read of the manual is a must.
After purchasing the Suunto Core (Light Green), I have to admit there is no comparison really. The Core is much easier to use, easier to read, more comfortable to wear. The only disadvantage of the Core may be its durability for such a thin and lightweight housing. But so far it's held up to everything I've put it through.
