Customer Rating: Summary: Were to out the lid?? Comment: While cooking with a dutch oven it is usually necessary to open and stir several times. While using your lid lifter as to keep from getting burned the next quandary is where to set the lid. You don't want it in the dirt, and with all those coals on top it's kinda heavy. This is where the lid stand comes it. It keeps the lid clean and out of the dirt. Sturdy and well balanced. The perfect accessory to add to your dutch oven cooking.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great for Frying! Comment: The user's insert says that charcoal can be placed under the inverted lid support for the likewise inverted Dutch oven lid and the combination makes a great griddle. I had to try it to believe it. I'm a believer! A few layers of briquettes are needed in order to get it hot enough to sear meats. I found that if the briquettes are placed on a flat surface, the lower ones get starved for oxygen and extinguish. But if a way is devised to raise the lid support and charcoal on a (Weber, or other) grill up at least an inch, all the charcoal will continue to burn and the griddle/lid will reach the requisite high temp. I use a woodstove chimney/top thermometer as a temperature gauge. I've purchased a second lid support so as to be able to double my pancake output. (I have 10" and 12" Dutch ovens.) I assume the lid support used as such would work equally as well as a 'side burner' for all manner of cast iron griddles, pans, or pots.
Customer Rating: Summary: Well made and useful Comment: Lodge make good iron products. If you can't cook it in a Dutch Oven, it can't be cooked. The lid stand is good if you use the lid as a cooking surface. If you don't, save your money or learn how to cook with a Dutch oven.
Customer Rating: Summary: A handy dutch oven and camping tool. Comment: We got this and use it EVERY time we cook outdoors. When we went camping, we put our big water pot on it to boil with the briquettes underneath.
You can also put a pot on it, with the handle side up. This allows us to set a hot lid somewhere while stirring or frying in the oven, and keep the lid clean.
Con: I had hoped to put a lid on it upside down for frying bacon and such, but the handle on the lid prevented that. I'd have to have two of these to fry with the dutch oven lid.
Customer Rating: Summary: A must have for dutch oven owners!! Comment: These stands are of great quality. I have purchased one for every dutch oven I have. I have used them as a stand to cook on an upside down lid. I have also used this inside my dutch oven to cook biscuits. I place it in the bottom and place a pan on top to allow for even heat and air circulation in the oven. All of my dutch ovens are deep and there is plenty of room to use this inside with a pan. It is also nice to have a sturdy place to put your lid. . .no more dirt on the lid. . .no more burnt tables. Worth every penny!
